Indian express news;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wife Jashodaben, who has challenged the denial of information she had sought under RTI in November on her security and privileges as PM’s spouse, was again denied the same. In November 2014, Jashodaben had filed an application under the RTI Act with the Mehsana police seeking details of the security provided to her after Modi became Prime Minister.

On December 27, 2014, she was denied the information by the  Mehsana police on the ground that her queries were related to Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB) which is exempted under the Act. However, on January 2, she filed another appeal.

Mehsana District Police Superintendent, J R Mothalia, in the reply dated February 6, 2015 (accessed by The Indian Express), states: “The information which you have sought for it comes under LIB department and as per the home department of Gujarat Government’s circular SB/1/102001/8203/GOI dated 25/10/2005, the LIB is exempted from providing this information.”

The reply, which was addressed to “Shrimati Jashodaben, Chimanlal Modi’s daughter”, further says, “As per the RTI Act of 2005’s Section 19(6), we would like to inform that we have been busy in January organising and maintaining law and order at the internationally known events Pravasi Bharatiya Divas/Vibrant Summit at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, and organising (bandobast) of Makar Sankranti, Republic Day functions and other important work related to these. If you are dissatisfied with the information given, then as per the RTI Act of 2005-Section 19 you may pursue an appeal at the information commission at Gandhinagar.”

Jashodaben had claimed in her appeal that there was no specific reason given to her in the reply by the Mehsana DySP for denying information of her RTI filed in November 2014. She had also demanded a copy of the state department’s order under which the LIB was given exemption under the RTI Act, according to the Mehsana police.

Jashodaben, a retired school teacher who lives at her brother’s house at Unjha, said, “I will definitely appeal in the Gujarat Mahiti Aayog (Information Commission) in Gandhinagar soon, most probably by March.”
